The Original Editor: Tables: Basics

The use of tables adds many possibilities to your web page format and layout. What can you use tables for?

  • to position pictures and text
  • to create blocks of color
  • to have background color or images behind text or graphics

To insert a table in your web page, click on an Add icon in the Preview Area where you want to insert the table, then click on the Table button in the Properties Frame.

The table will appear in your Preview Area as shown at right. Initially it has only one row and one column, but you can add columns and rows very easily, as described here.

The table properties will appear in the Properties Frame. Table and cell formatting is described here.

To modify the table at a later time, click on the Edit icon that is displayed immediately underneath the table. To change cell formatting properties, click the first Edit icon in any cell of a table. Click on the Add icon in a table cell to insert a graphic, text, or other element inside the cell.

Remember to click Save when you are finished.
